Wellness Wednesday! What do I buy at the grocery store?

One of my friends wasn't sure what to buy at the grocery store and still eat healthy and have healthy options in their home.  So I thought I would put together some ideas for vegetarians and meat eaters.

When you shop at a grocery store, all of the healthy items are located around the perimeter!
Always keep soup in your house. It seems old school, it's what mom used to do, but if your not going to make soup from scratch, I always feel like it's a great go to meal, and just pair with a salad, vegetables or even add in rotisserie chicken chopped up and you have a fast instant meal.

I always buy a frozen pizza!  It's great to have when you want to a little snack. Now they have so many cauliflower pizzas, organic pizzas, so many delicious healthy varieties. I also always keep veggie burgers, and turkey burgers in my freezer.  I love making a salad and adding the patty right on top and smear with avocado!

I always keep frozen quinoa and brown rice in the freezer.  I've made salads, and added quinoa to it, even soup, and brown rice is a great side dish.  Trader Joe's has both that heats up on the stove in 5 minutes.  That's so easy and convenient.  I don't always use the whole package either, I open it and make an individual portion and save the rest for later.  Quinoa is an excellent source of protein for vegetarians that can be used in so many dishes.

I am a meat eater, and I enjoy chicken, turkey burgers and salmon the most! On my busy weekends, I usually buy a rotisserie chicken, and I can use it to make a salad, add to soup, tacos, quesadillas, it's perfect for roll ups too! I'm too busy to cook on the weekends as I bartend those nights and I really don't feel like doing it.  So it has to be quick and easy.

If I meal prep on Sunday, I like to make a couple of meals and then freeze a couple and make my own frozen dinner.  I even meal prep a salad on the weekend.  So it's ready to eat!

One of my new favorite items is double protein English Muffins.  I try and eat the healthiest bread I can, because I enjoy it!  I have found this muffin to really fill me up and I am not bloated from the bread and since it's a double protein, it's great for a vegetarian to add almond butter, or egg, or egg substitute to make your own breakfast muffin.  They freeze great too!  Oatmeal is a staple in my house, it's one of my favorite breakfasts and you can keep it in your pantry.

Keeping nuts, hummus, and vegetables at hand for snack time is great! I love frozen vegetables too! You can buy organic frozen veggies to add to your meals when you run out of fresh vegetables. I always buys bananas and if it's getting close to them going bad, I slice them up and freeze them too!
Beans are excellent to keep in the pantry too!  Add to a salad, add as a side to tacos, add to breakfast in the morning, and full of fiber, protein.  I love pinto beans, and brown beans! Black beans are great too!

Old school staple, ramen!  Yes, the ramen we lived on in college! But, now we're adults add egg, spinach, kimchee, shrimp, rotisserie chicken, kale, almond slices, tofu, or mushrooms! So many options available to you!  Ramen stores well in your pantry and it's quick meal.  If you don't want to add the seasoning, just add the broth of your choice!

Lentils! So many great ways to use it. Soup, lentil bolognese, in a salad, and you can find it ready to eat at Trader Joes in the refrigerator section.  I love lentils!

I also love my whole food shakes that I sell from my wellness company.  They are food!  Vegetarian, non gmo, dairy free and full of vitamins, minerals and a great way to have a healthy breakfast, or pre or post gym shake.  They are available for purchase! We have excellent shopping lists available to our clients at www.balancedbellasonline.com that really helps educate women on living a healthier life!

It's important to have a well stocked kitchen.  When you eat out all the time you spend more money, and you usually don't eat as well or as healthy!  Look online pick two recipes and buy those ingredients for the week.  It gives you room to be able to eat out, and enjoy nice meals at home.  There are many great frozen dinner options now too, but it's important to look at the sodium levels and cholesterol.  The cholesterol can be so high!  I will not buy it anymore if it's high.  It's better to make some of my own frozen meals.

List Ideas!
