Acupuncture and Cupping!

I recently kept feeling massive sciatica pain that I wrote about in an earlier blogpost.  In an effort to find more comfort my friend kept telling me to go to acupuncture.  I have tried it in the past, but I was a little slow to get myself to the teaching college.  I'm not even sure why?

I finally went two weeks ago, and my sciatica pain had just begun the night before.  So, the student and supervising Doctor thought they could help ease the pain.  I laid down and had the needles tapped into my skin.  This sounds more painful than it is.  It's really not that bad!  However, when the needle went into my skin around the sciatic pain, it was a much different feeling.  It was way more sensitive.  I meditated for about 15 minutes of heavenly bliss!

Next, came the cupping.  Cupping feels like there is an octopus on your back.  Latches right onto your skin.  Now if I ever found myself in an ocean battle with an octopus with many legs, I realize now that I will not win.  Although, as a magical mermaid, I would be able to sweet talk my way out of his death grip.  Basically, cupping loosens up muscles, it encourages blood flow.  You can end up with bruises that look light crop circles on a farm.  It's not flattering, but when you see someone else with these marks you are in the know and acknowledge one another like your in a secret society.  It's much respect!

Strangely, I did not have as many bruises near my sciatic area and buns.  Most of it were on my shoulders, where I work out and lift bottles from the bar.  (that's me) My shoulders need a little love too!

After this treatment I am extremely tired.  You can feel your body has gone through an extensive amount of an energy shift.  I drank a lot of water and rested on my night off.  I did not have any sciatica pain all week.  I couldn't believe it!  I didn't have to stretch, or use my foam roller, like I normally do.  By the end of the week, I was really looking forward to that next session, just because I knew it was helping in my healing.  I went back this week, and I have to say I felt tired that night, but this week I have felt more focused, energized and stronger.  I definitely felt a significant difference!

If you are looking for a holistic alternative to pain management or energy shifting, I highly recommend acupuncture.  Some insurances accept acupuncture and I went to a teaching college which is more affordable.  Don't be afraid, the benefits out weigh your fear.
